New tables have been added and others updated, including the mathematical tables in Appendix A. Available in traditional print format and as an eBook, this reference puts physical formulas and mathematical tables used in labs every day within easy reach.
From the Preface by W. M. Haynes, March 2013
The 94th edition of the Handbook includes new tables, major updates, and expansions. A new series highlighting the achievements of some of the leading figures in chemistry and physics has also been initiated. This edition and succeeding editions will provide biographical information, a list of major achievements, and notable quotations attributed to each of the renowned chemists and physicists. Each edition will feature two chemists and two physicists. The following new tables have been added to this edition:
Section 7: Biochemistry
- Properties of fatty acid methyl and ethyl esters related to biofuels
Section 8: Analytical chemistry
- Gas chromatographic retention indices
- Detectors for liquid chromatography
- Organic analytical reagents for the determination of inorganic ions
Section 12: Properties of solids
- Properties of selected materials at cryogenic temperatures
Quotes About Previous Editions
“I fell in love with it straightaway…its tables were so full of information that I thought of it as containing the whole universe between its covers.” Oliver Sacks M.D., Physician, Author, Neurologist
“People who have interviewed me have commented on the extensive knowledge that I have about the properties of substances…I attribute this knowledge in part to the fact that I possessed the Rubber Handbook…” Linus Pauling, Chemist, Author
“I’m proud to be a part of the book’s century-long history. The book’s usefulness has only increased over time, providing scientists with the data they need to explore ideas and to advance in their chosen fields.” John Lavender, CRC Press Senior Vice President

|Principles of Instrumental Analysis
Lowest new price: $99.00
Lowest used price: $147.99
List price: $370.95
Author: Douglas A. Skoog
PRINCIPLES OF INSTRUMENTAL ANALYSIS has long been the standard for courses that deal with the principles and applications of modern analytical instruments. Now with their new Sixth Edition, authors Douglas A. Skoog, F. James Holler, and Stanley R. Crouch infuse their popular text with updated techniques as well as new Instrumental Analysis in Action case studies. The book's updated material enhances its proven approach, which places an emphasis on the theoretical basis of each type of instrument, its optimal area of application, its sensitivity, its precision, and its limitations. PRINCIPLES OF INSTRUMENTAL ANALYSIS also introduces students to elementary analog and digital electronics, computers, and treatment of analytical data. A book companion website is available, providing students with tutorials on instrumental methods, Excel files of data analysis and simulations of analytical techniques to help them visualize important concepts in this course, and selected papers from the chemical literature to stimulate interest and provide background information for study.
|Handbook of Modern Sensors: Physics, Designs, and Applications
Lowest new price: $67.49
Lowest used price: $62.00
List price: $99.00
Author: Jacob Fraden
The Handbook's coverage of sensors is extensive, ranging from simple photodiodes to complex devices containing components in combination. It offers hard-to-find reference data on the properties of numerous materials and sensing elements and emphasizes devices that are less well-known, whose technology is still being refined, and whose use permits the measurement of variables that were previously inaccessible.
|Spectrometric Identification of Organic Compounds
Lowest new price: $59.80
Lowest used price: $49.99
Author: Robert M. Silverstein
Originally published in 1962, this was the first book to explore teh identification of organic compounds using spectroscopy. It provides a thorough introduction to the three areas of spectrometry most widely used in spectrometric identification: mass spectrometry, infrared spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. A how-to, hands-on teaching manual with considerably expanded NMR coverage--NMR spectra can now be intrepreted in exquisite detail. This book:
* Uses a problem-solving approach with extensive reference charts and tables.
* Offers an extensive set of real-data problems offers a challenge to the practicing chemist
