|How to Protect Your Heart from Your Doctor
Lowest new price: $9.95
Lowest used price: $0.01
List price: $14.95
Author: Howard H. Wayne
How To Protect Your Heart From Your Doctor was written to educate heart patients who have been told they must undergo angiograms followed by angioplasty or bypass surgery that there are other options for both the diagnosis and treatment of their heart conditions. Noninvasive tests can provide all the information that is needed about a patient's coronary artery disease while modern medications have revolutionized the treatment of coronary artery disease. All too often angioplasty and bypass surgery are recommended as the first and only treatment option because these procedures are so profitable. Typically patients are threatened that unless they undergo surgery, they will have a heart attack or die. These are tactics of medical terrorism. There are now a large number of studies on over 20,000 patients comparing surgery or angioplasty with conservative medical treatment. Not a single study shows any benefit of these interventions. Neither angioplasty or bypass surgery prevent heart attacks or premature death. In fact, patients undergoing these procedures are more likely to die, have heart attacks, or go into heart failure. Thus, this book was written to inform the public of the dangers of these interventions and that conservative treatment with modern medications is highly effective, safe, and will prevent heart attacks and premature death.

|The Importance of Fathers: A Psychoanalytic Re-evaluation (The New Library of Psychoanalysis)
Lowest new price: $42.50
Lowest used price: $13.25
List price: $47.95
It is widely acknowledged that children need structure, security, stability and attachment to develop and flourish, and that the father is an important part of this.
Issues such as high divorce rates, new family structures, increased mobility, women's liberation and contraception are very common in society. This book sets out to explore what has happened to men and to fathers during all these changes and transitions. Judith Trowell and Alicia Etchegoyen, along with an array of renowned contributors, consider the importance of fathers in various situations, including:
- the role of the father at different stage of children's development
- the missing father
- loss of a father
It is argued that the father is important, not only to support the main carer (usually the mother) but also to provide a caring, thinking, comfortable, confident presence.

|Flow-Dependent Regulation of Vascular Function
Lowest new price: $16.69
Lowest used price: $6.79
List price: $96.00
This book brings together current research on the way in which blood flow can regulate vascular function--with particular emphasis on vascular tone. Evidence that this occurs is derived from the study of isolated cellular and tissue systems, in vitro vascular segments and vascular beds from both animals and humans. It seems likely that flow-sensitive mechanisms are found in most arteries and veins. Considerable attention is devoted in this book to the role of the endothelium. It also examines the cellular and sub-cellular mechanisms involved, the effective stimulus, the signal transduction systems, the role of flow-dependent mechanisms in various physiological regulating processes and the role of flow in the long-term design of the circulation system. Included are chapters concerned with the involvement of flow-related mechanisms in disease, for example arteriosclerosis, vasospasm and their alteration in heart failure and hypertension. It may be that sensitivity to flow represents an important underlying characteristic of the vascular system essential to its role in bringing the desired volume of blood to tissues in amounts appropriate to their need.
|Clinical Management Notes and Case Histories in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy

Lowest used price: $96.35
List price: $56.95
Author: W. Darlene Reid BMR(PT) PhD
Brand: Brand: Slack Incorporated
Clinical Management Notes and Case Histories in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy is a succinct guide that facilitates a case-based learning approach to cardiopulmonary care. This one-of-a-kind text combines evidence-based assessment and management skills and well-thought-out cases of typical presentations of pulmonary and cardiovascular conditions. This combined approach helps students and clinicians learn meaningful skills in a clinically relevant manner.
Two primary components present in Clinical Management Notes and Case Histories in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy are notes on cardiopulmonary assessment and management, and case histories involving respiratory and cardiovascular conditions commonly viewed by physical therapists. Accompanying the notes are thought-provoking questions and problems that enable the reader to establish a foundation of core concepts. The presentation of case histories further facilitates the development of integral skills and enables the reader to integrate those core concepts into a clinical setting. Also, question and answer guides accompany the patient profiles.
The two-fold evidence and case based learning approach used by authors W. Darlene Reid, BMR(PT), PhD and Frank Chung, BSc(PT), MSc allows for a more engaging experience. Students are able to learn and develop skills to prepare them for their professional transition while clinicians can use the text as a reference tool.
