Lowest new price: $10.67
Lowest used price: $10.86
List price: $17.95
Author: Susan B. Anderson

Susan B. Anderson's fifth book--her most enchanting yet--turns the spotlight on "reversibles": knitted projects that are two toys in one. This collection of a dozen delightful toys features a dog in a doghouse, a chrysalis with a fluttery surprise inside, a tiny hidden fairy, a vintage toy with a fabled theme to boot, pigs in a blanket, and much more. The adorable photographic sequences and the playful and energetic line drawings show how each finished reversible can be turned inside out to reveal its companion toy. Projects are arranged in order from simplest (fine for a beginner) to the most challenging. Finally, the book features tutorials from the author (a great knitting teacher), explaining special techniques: how to apply any applique, how to do the stem stitch, how to embroider "eyes" on the Bunny and Lamb, and 14 more. It all adds up to the best knitting book of the season.

| Making Things Move DIY Mechanisms for Inventors, Hobbyists, and Artists
Lowest new price: $14.43
Lowest used price: $10.94
List price: $30.00
Author: Dustyn Roberts
|
A unique guide to practical mechanical design principles and their applications In Making Things Move, you'll learn how to build moving mechanisms through non-technical explanations, examples, and do-it-yourself projects--from art installations to toys to labor-saving devices. The projects include a drawing machine, a mini wind turbine, a mousetrap powered car, and more, but the applications of the examples are limited only by your imagination. A breadth of topics is covered ranging from how to attach couplers and shafts to a motor, to converting between rotary and linear motion. Each chapter features photographs, drawings, and screenshots of the components and systems involved. Emphasis is placed on using off-the-shelf components whenever possible, and most projects also use readily available metals, plastics, wood, and cardboard, as well as accessible fabrication techniques such as laser cutting. Small projects in each chapter are designed to engage you in applying the material in the chapter at hand. Later in the book, more involved projects incorporate material from several chapters. Making Things Move:
- Focuses on practical applications and results, not abstract engineering theories
- Contains more than a dozen topic-focused projects and three large-scale projects incorporating lessons from the whole book
- Features shopping lists and guides to off-the-shelf components for the projects
- Incorporates discussions of new fabrication techniques such as laser cutting and 3D printing, and how you can gain access
- Includes online component for continuing education with the book's companion website and blog (makingthingsmove.com)

| LEGO Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World's Most Impressive Guns
Lowest new price: $13.91
Lowest used price: $14.94
List price: $24.95
Author: Jack Streat
|
From LEGO guns mastermind and 18 year-old YouTube sensation Jack Streat comes LEGO Heavy Weapons, a collection of complete building instructions for four truly impressive, 1:1-scale replicas of the world's most iconic firearms. LEGO Heavy Weapons will show you how to build brick-based models of: - A massive Desert Eagle handgun, with working blowback action
- The compact but deadly AKS-74U assault rifle with folding stock
- A bolt-action Lee Enfield sniper rifle (a.k.a. Jungle Carbine)
- A pump action SPAS combat shotgun
Each set of instructions includes a complete parts listing, so you can find (or special order) any hard-to-find bricks. The book's illustrated, step-by-step building instructions will be clear to anyone who's ever played with LEGO bricks, and the biggest models will challenge and delight even the most serious builders.
Desert Eagle Say hello to the Desert Eagle—possibly the meanest of all handguns and definitely one of the biggest. With Mark VII and XIX models available in .50 Action Express, it's also one of the most powerful production handguns to date. The sheer power, size, and weight of this beast have made it the director's pick in many an action movie, even though it has some inherent drawbacks when compared to a smaller, lighter weapon with a larger magazine capacity. That said, there's no way any other pistol comes close on a scale of sheer awesomeness. The Desert Eagle is a gas-operated, semiautomatic pistol. Gas operation (where the expanding gasses from the fired round push a piston, which operates the action to chamber a new round) for a pistol is unusual, as normally a pistol's action is cycled simply by recoil. The gun can be chambered for a variety of rounds, including the previously mentioned .50 Action Express and the .44 Magnum. It feeds from a detachable box magazine, which holds nine, eight, or seven rounds (single stack), depending on the caliber being used.
