|LEGO Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World's Most Impressive Guns
Lowest new price: $15.62
Lowest used price: $15.88
List price: $24.95
Author: Jack Streat
From LEGO guns mastermind and 18 year-old YouTube sensation Jack Streat comes LEGO Heavy Weapons, a collection of complete building instructions for four truly impressive, 1:1-scale replicas of the world's most iconic firearms.
LEGO Heavy Weapons will show you how to build brick-based models of:
- A massive Desert Eagle handgun, with working blowback action
- The compact but deadly AKS-74U assault rifle with folding stock
- A bolt-action Lee Enfield sniper rifle (a.k.a. Jungle Carbine)
- A pump action SPAS combat shotgun
Each set of instructions includes a complete parts listing, so you can find (or special order) any hard-to-find bricks. The book's illustrated, step-by-step building instructions will be clear to anyone who's ever played with LEGO bricks, and the biggest models will challenge and delight even the most serious builders.
Say hello to the Desert Eagle—possibly the meanest of all handguns and definitely one of the biggest. With Mark VII and XIX models available in .50 Action Express, it's also one of the most powerful production handguns to date. The sheer power, size, and weight of this beast have made it the director's pick in many an action movie, even though it has some inherent drawbacks when compared to a smaller, lighter weapon with a larger magazine capacity. That said, there's no way any other pistol comes close on a scale of sheer awesomeness.
The Desert Eagle is a gas-operated, semiautomatic pistol. Gas operation (where the expanding gasses from the fired round push a piston, which operates the action to chamber a new round) for a pistol is unusual, as normally a pistol's action is cycled simply by recoil. The gun can be chambered for a variety of rounds, including the previously mentioned .50 Action Express and the .44 Magnum. It feeds from a detachable box magazine, which holds nine, eight, or seven rounds (single stack), depending on the caliber being used.

Author: Ulrik Pilegaard
It just may be impossible to exhaust the creative potential of LEGO bricks. With an active imagination as your guide, there are endless possibilities-provided you follow the LEGO Company's official (and sensible) rules. This means no cutting or tampering with bricks, creating models that shoot unapproved projectiles, or using non-standard parts with any LEGO product. After all, those little precision-molded ABS bricks can be dangerous in the wrong hands! Well, toss those rules out the window.
Forbidden Lego introduces you to the type of free-style building that LEGO's master builders do for fun in the back room. Using LEGO bricks in combination with common household materials (from rubber bands and glue to plastic spoons and ping-pong balls) along with some very unorthodox building techniques, you'll learn to create working models that LEGO would never endorse. Try your hand at a toy gun that shoots LEGO plates, a candy catapult, a high voltage LEGO vehicle, a continuous-fire ping-pong ball launcher, and other useless but incredibly fun inventions.
Once you get into the spirit, you'll want to try inventing your own rule-breaking models. Forbidden Lego's authors, share tips and tricks that will inspire you and help you turn your visions into reality. Nothing's against the rules in this book!

|Turning Toys with Richard Raffan
Lowest new price: $14.89
Lowest used price: $15.22
List price: $24.95
Author: Richard Raffan
Most woodturners have children in their lives who would appreciate a hand-turned toy (or several). The projects in Turning Toys can serve as a base for almost limitless variation, so you can put your own stamp on each object you create.
Repetition is the key to mastering any craft, so these projects are in part skill-builders that you can repeat and thereby hone your turning techniques. You can get plenty of practice when small kids can’t have too many peg dolls, balls, or things on wheels. You’ll see ways of salvaging a situation when things go wrong, as they inevitably do when you have a catch or the wood splits. Disasters become design opportunities.
The photos and drawings show you what to do, step-by-step; you’ll see exactly how the tools are used, how the cutting edge should relate to the surface you’re cutting, and how to stand to support and hold the tools so that working at your lathe is a comfortable and pleasurable activity.
Few things can be more satisfying than making stuff for people you know, let alone love, especially when you can watch them using and enjoying the products of your labors. This book will bring you many happy and fruitful hours at the lathe creating heirlooms for future generations.
