| Diamondback 2013 Overdrive V 29'er Mountain Bike with 29-Inch Wheels
List price: $550.00
Brand: Diamondback
Model: CSADD-P
|
Overdrive - 2013 Best uses for the Overdrive: Cross country mountain bike riding on beginner to intermediate singletrack trails, gravel or dirt roads & paths, paved roads and commuting. - A high quality, lightweight aluminum frame.
- 29" wheels for getting over obstacles easier.
- •A suspension fork and disc brakes for a more comfortable ride and superior stopping power.
Key features of the Diamondback Overdrive: - Obstacle Roll Over – Larger wheels decrease your angle of attack meaning the wheels roll over trail obstacles with less impact, reducing fatigue and smoothing out the trail. Bigger wheel = smaller obstacle.
- Momentum – A larger wheel diameter means better momentum once rolling and faster rolling over obstacles and open terrain.
- Surface Contact – 29"wheels are less prone to sinking in soft material such as sand and mud due to the larger contact patch causing lower ground pressure. The longer contact patch increases cornering and straight line traction.
- Stability – The relative position of the bottom bracket/cranks to the axles in the wheels also means that your relative center of gravity is lower. This results in a feeling of riding "in" the bike rather than on top of it.
- Tire Clearance – with more tire choices than any platform, the 29"wheel easily accommodates off road as well as commuting tires.
Frame: The Overdrive features a butted 6061-T6 aluminum frame. 6061 aluminum is airplane grade aluminum while T6 refers to a heat treating process that creates extra strength in the metal. The butting process lets the thickness of the frame tubes be varied; putting more material at stress points for added strength, and less material at non-stress points for weight savings. The final result is a sturdy frame that weighs less than steel and many other aluminum frames on the market. Less weight means it takes less energy to move the bike. Fork: Suspension forks compresses over bumps to help absorb shock meaning less jarring and body stress to the rider and resulting in less arm fatigue while riding. When it comes to shock absorption the Suntour 100mm/4” travel fork found on the Overdrive will give you enough compression for getting over roots, rocks, and pesky potholes in comfort. Mechanical Disc Brakes: Mechanical disc brakes have better stopping power than rim brakes in a wide range of conditions, especially the wet and mud. 24-speed Drivetrain: With 3 chainrings to choose from on the crank (front) and 8 cogs to choose from on the cassette (back) you get to choose from 24 different gear combinations in order to get you where you need to go. The 2013 Overdrive a fantastic entry level hardtail 29er for those looking for a great balance between value and performance. If the Overdrive is not quite the right 29’er for you please look at the other bikes in Diamondback’s hardtail 29’er family below. Amazon.com Bicycle Buying Guide Finding the Right Bike To really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike: The Right Ride In general, bikes are broken down into three major categories: - Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain.
- Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine.
- Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family.
The Right Price A bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability. - Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use.
- Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension.
- High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultra-lightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action.
The Right Size Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips: - Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
- Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
- Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.
The Right Accessories When you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons: - Helmet (this is a must!)
- Seat pack
- Lock
- Hydration pack, or water bottles and bottle cages
- Spare tubes
- Portable bike pump
- Gloves
Features:
- 21-speed mountain bike features a full-suspension, strong aluminum frame
- Floating beam suspension design is mated to a Zoom suspension fork with elastomer/spring technology
- Microshift push shifters and Shimano TZ-30GS derailleur
- Strong aluminum wheelset featuring V-shape rim profile and high-flange alloy hubs
- Front and rear Promax disk brakes work great, even in adverse conditions

| Diamondback 2013 Recoil 29'er Full Suspension Mountain Bike with 29-Inch Wheels
List price: $750.00
Brand: Diamondback
Model: CSDDC-P
|
Recoil 29 - 2013 What is a Recoil? The dictionary defines recoil as "to spring or come back; react." The Diamondback Recoil takes that definition to heart. Whether it is flying down the wide open trail or making its way through twisty tight single track, the Recoil 29 will react to what is under its tires and then spring back and be ready to take on what comes next. What’s next?: 29ers. The larger diameter wheel is taking over, and with good reason. The Recoil 29 is the perfect beginner bike for those just getting into aggressive riding or those who are looking for an entry level full suspension rig. The foundation for this is firmly laid with an all-new 6061 T-6 Aluminum Trail frame sporting 4" of travel via the Tuff Shock Rear Coil Shock w/ oil Damping. The frame uses a machine formed top tube and a butted and formed down tube sharing tubing from our nicer Sortie series. It uses a sealed cartridge bearing pivot and is built around an optimized single pivot design which is the simplest type of rear suspension because there are few moving parts. It consists of a pivot just above the bottom bracket, slightly up on the down tube and a single swingarm to the rear axle. Being that the rear triangle directly attaches to the rear shock, the shock has a more linear spring rate and offers good small bump compliance. Larger wheels are not the only goodies on this beast, We've added a SR XCT 100mm travel fork w/external preload adj. The Shimano SL-M310 Rapidfire 8-speed shifters control an Altus front and an Acera rear derailleur and the HG31 8spd Cassette (11-32t) combined with the SR Suntour XCC T202 crankset ( 24/34/42t) give you 24 mountain crushing gears to choose from. The Tektro Novela mechanical disc brakes with 6" rotors will provide all of the breaking power that you’ll need and the Weinmann SL-7 Doublewall wheelset will provide a tough and stable platform for your bike to roll on. | | Recoil 29 | Recoil Comp 29 | Recoil Pro 29 | Sortie 1 29 | | MSRP | $750.00 | $1,100.00 | $1,600.00 | $2,300.00 | | Sizes | 16" Small 18" Medium 20" Large | 16" Small 18" Medium 20" Large | 16" Small 18" Medium 20" Large | 15.5" Small 17" Medium 19" Large 21" XLarge | | Color | Black/Red | Black/Silver | Black/Blue | Silver | | Key Upgrades | | Upgrades from Recoil 29: Front Fork: Suntour SCR RL w/ Rebound damping and speed remote lockout gives the rider the ability to customize the rigidity of the fork without breaking stride.
