The Smash Hit Party Game
Spot it! is the addictive, feverishly fun matching game for every generation. The first thing to know about Spot it! is that there is always one, and only one, matching symbol between any two cards. Got it? Now all you need is a sharp eye and a quick hand to play all five party games packed into the grab 'n' go tin. Including up to eight players, Spot it! is a cinch to learn, plays fast, and is irresistibly fun for all ages!
Once you "spot", the fun don't stop.
Simple to learn, a challenge to win.
A Lively Visual Test for the Whole Family
Spot it! is played with 55 circular cards, each decorated with eight symbols varying in size and orientation. There are more than 50 symbols in all, including random yet universal images of hearts, snowflakes, dragons, and lightning bolts, and even words such as Stop and OK. The aim of the game is to be the first to spot the one symbol in common between two or more cards. Don’t be fooled! It's not as simple as it sounds. A match is easily hidden in the array, especially with the pressure of racing frantically against your opponents. The cards change with every match made, so you have to stay focused to keep up. Every match will fuel your fire and agonizing over getting beat to the punch by a faster player only adds to the overall excitement.
Play Five Individual Mini Games
Spot it! packs unlimited play potential as you can mix it up with multiple games. The five individual mini-games included in the game booklet have separate rules and objectives. Choose from such contests as The Tower, The Well, Hot Potato, The Poisoned Gift, or Triplet, and play them in any order. In some, players try to collect cards, in others, they race to get ride of cards. For example, in The Tower, each player is handed a card and the remaining stack of cards is placed in the middle of the table. On the count of three, players look at their own cards and the top card of the middle stack for a matching symbol. When someone spots a match, he calls out the symbol and grabs the middle card, and puts it on top of his old card. Now everyone has to look at the new middle card for a match and try to win cards until the middle stack is gone. At the end, the player with the most cards wins. For competitive players ready for a Spot it! showdown, there’s even a tournament point system included in the booklet.
An All-Around Winner
With 15 awards to its name, Spot it! has won the hearts of kids as well as adults. The versatile and skill-building game has also caught the attention of educators and therapists, who praise it for honing kids’ perceptual abilities, attention, and speech-language skills. Not many people can deny the appeal of this game. A group of college kids will get the same kick out of it as grandparents and young kids. Furthermore, the durable little tin that holds the cards makes Spot it! the perfect travel game and boredom buster. You just can't go wrong with Spot it!
Discover all Spot it! Editions

On the Road to Settlement
|What We Think |
(what this means)
The Good: Engaging strategy game that's different each time you play
The Bad: Requires three or four players
In a Nutshell: The Settlers of Catan is fun, easy to learn, and keeps advanced players on their toes
|At a Glance |
Ages: 10 and up
Requires: Three or four players
The game rules and almanac booklet sets out four pages of guidelines for getting started. Don't worry, the rules are straightforward and the four pages include plenty of illustrations. There's a starting map that shows a well-balanced set-up for beginners to follow and directions that allow more advanced players to lay out the map of the island at random. You'll have to pop the die-cut components of the game out of their cardboard holders before you play your first game.
The almanac portion of the booklet is laid out alphabetically, so while playing you can find answers to specific questions quickly. Useful entries remind you exactly what role pieces like the robber play, how actions like maritime trade work, and how to set up the board or finish the game.
Exploring and Developing Catan
The board consists of 19 terrain hexes surrounded by the ocean. Each type of terrain produces a different type of resource: brick, wool, ore, grain or lumber. There's also a desert hex that produces no resources. As the game progresses, players use resources to build roads along the edges of these hexes and settlements or cities on the intersections where three hexes meet. Each player begins the game with two settlements and two roads.
Each player's roll of the dice causes certain hexes to produce resources, which you collect if you have a settlement on one of them. On your turn, you'll use various combinations of the resources you've acquired to build new roads and settlements, upgrade settlements to cities, or purchase development cards. The ability to trade resources with other players adds a new level of strategy and ensures that the game includes lots of interaction between players. You can also trade without worrying about other players using an unfavorable maritime trade rate. Elements including a robber piece that lets you steal from other players and a variety of development cards add intrigue to the game.
The objective of The Settlers of Catan is to be the first one who collects 10 victory points. Each settlement is worth one victory point and each city is worth two victory points. You can also earn victory points by holding the "Longest Road" card, the "Largest Army" card, or special victory point development cards.
Best-Selling Game of the Year
It's easy to see why The Settlers of Catan has been recognized as a best-selling Game of the Year in both Germany and the U. S. We found this game to be fun and engaging for both children and adults, and the variable nature of the playing field really made us want to play again and again. When we started pausing to contemplate our opponents' strategy and factoring the probability of different dice rolls into our moves, the game sometimes took longer than expected, but we were so engrossed we didn't even notice until it was all over.
Due to the widespread popularity of the original game, several expansion sets (sold separately) are available that allow you to explore new aspects of the game or add more players. The only downside to this game is that you need to have either three or four players to play, so it's great that expansion sets are available that will allow you to add players.

Mix, Match, Score, and Win
Qwirkle consists of 108 wooden blocks with six different shapes in six colors. Using the blocks, players attempt to score the most points by building lines that share the same shape or color. The simple setup makes this an instant winner for younger kids, while adults will enjoy strategizing to win.
How to Play
A typical game of Qwirkle lasts about 45 minutes--longer when you're first learning how to play--and players will likely catch on to the rules in no time at all. The game can be set up anywhere, although a large tabletop is best to accommodate the generous number of tiles. The only other thing you'll need is a pencil and paper to keep track of everyone's point count.
Each tile has an illustration on the back (circle, eight-point star, four-point star, square, clover, or diamond). Each of these symbols appears in six different colors (red, yellow, orange, green, blue, and purple). In total, the game has three tiles each of the 36 possible color-symbol combinations. To help make sure you don't lose any tiles in between games, Qwirkle comes with a drawstring storage pouch.
Straightforward, Easy-to-Follow Rules
As in Scrabble, the game starts with players drawing their own "hand" of six tiles. The player with the most tiles that share something in common (color or symbol) plays their pieces and wins points. And so it goes until the pieces make up a giant grid. One rule adults will likely need to reiterate to little ones is that duplicate tiles don't count. For instance, if someone has three diamonds, and two of them are green, they can only count one of those diamonds for points.
As play continues and the stakes get higher, younger kids may need some help deciding where to build to maximize their points. Our testers found that the length of the game may make younger kids squirmy halfway through. To keep them engaged, parents can always distribute half the number of tiles to start. The game is over when all the tiles have been played and all the points have been tallied.

The categories are few and simple, but this allows everyone, even young children, to get in on the family fun. And because you'll be racing against the one-minute sand-clock timer, each round moves quickly, ramping up your energy and challenging your wit.
This board game comes with everything you'll need to play. Your group of two to six players will be strapping on headbands, asking funny questions, and making wild guesses without complicated setups and rules.
Ask Questions to Guess Your Identity
Playing Hedbanz is simple. After dealing one card and three chips to each player, take your card and place it in your adjustable headband without peeking. When your turn arrives, ask each player a question about who, or what, you are ("Am I a food?"). If you get stuck, the sample questions card offers tips on the types of questions you might ask.
When you get a yes, your questions will become more specific ("Am I cooked?" or "Did Dad serve me for dinner last night?") until you're ready to guess the answer ("I am spaghetti!"). For each identity you guess correctly, you'll discard one of your chips. If you give up, you'll collect a chip from the chip bank and be dealt a new card. The first player to get rid of all her chips is the Hedbanz winner.
Educational Gameplay for Kids
Hedbanz is not only fun, but inherently educational. Kids will flex their deductive reasoning skills with the game's simple question-and-answer premise. By making connections and coming up with questions that will lead to answers, kids will also practice creative critical thinking skills.
