Product Description
The man with the patch is back in this futuristic sequel to "Escape From New York." Into the 9.6 quaked L.A. of 2013 comes Snake Plissken. His job is to wade through L.A.'s ruined landmarks to retrieve a doomsday device. Don't miss the excitement as Snake surfs Wiltshire Blvd., shoots hoops at the Coliseum, dive bombs the Happy Kingdom theme park, and mixes it up with a wild assortment of friends, fiends and foes.

Kurt Russell reprises his role as Snake Plissken, of the near-future thriller Escape from New York, in this reworking of that film's basic premise. Instead of New York being a maximum-security prison, this time it's L.A., which through the agency of earthquakes has become an island of the damned. This penal colony is where the film's future rulers, something very like the Moral Majority, send those deemed guilty of "moral crimes." But something has gone wrong in this new moral order, because the President's daughter has absconded to L.A. with a detonation device, and Snake is commandeered to retrieve it. The film's dark dystopia, with its satrical elements taking aim at our dwindling freedoms, and the eclipsing of democracy by narrow interests, are more the subject this time. As a result the action suffers, and the plot devices are sometimes weak and predictable. But just below the surface there is a coiled Snake ready to strike. Steve Buscemi's performance as a weasely hawker of L.A. tour maps is a standout, and the presence of Peter Fonda and Pam Grier adds to the fun. In fact, just the sight of Fonda surfing down the flooded corridor of Sunset Boulevard is reason enough to check this movie out. --Jim Gay

The film is a sequel to the 1981 film Escape from New York, and stars Kurt Russell as the anti-hero Snake Plissken. This time around, Snake is sent on a mission to retrieve a doomsday device that has fallen into the hands of a dangerous cult leader in Los Angeles. The film is filled with over-the-top action sequences, cheesy one-liners, and memorable characters that will have you laughing out loud.
The Collector's Edition Blu-ray release of Escape from L.A. is an absolute treat for fans of the film. The picture and sound quality have been beautifully remastered in high definition, providing a truly immersive viewing experience. The release also includes a variety of special features, including a commentary track from director John Carpenter and actor Kurt Russell, a making-of documentary, and interviews with the cast and crew.
But perhaps the most exciting aspect of this release is the packaging. The Blu-ray comes housed in a stunning slipcover adorned with artwork inspired by the film, making it a true collector's item. The packaging also includes a booklet with production notes and stills from the film, providing even more insight into the creation of this campy classic.
Overall, Escape from L.A. Collector's Edition Blu-ray is a must-have for any fan of the action genre. Its stunning remastering, special features, and beautiful packaging make it the ultimate way to experience this cheesy and campy classic. So if you're in the mood for some pure, unadulterated action movie fun, don't miss out on the opportunity to add Escape from L.A. to your collection - pick up the Collector's Edition Blu-ray today!
Watching the first movie left me disappointed. I don't understand its cult following. Not much really happens. It isn't a complex plot by any means, there aren't much to the short-lived action sequences.
Escape from L.A. is a copy-cat plot (and this is probably a foundational reason as to why the fans of the first movie tend not to like this one). Similar situation, same motivation to get in and get out, same character archetypes throughout. The difference is that they actually made this one fun, entertaining, and interesting. The action is a lot more prevalent and there were more jokes. The use of CGI is kind of terrible, but it's a bad movie to begin with not taking itself too seriously. Did it "jump the shark?" Sure, but I didn't think of the first movie as realistic to begin with, so I wasn't expecting it with this one.
Both movies suffer from a severe lack of character development. Why should I care if somebody dies if they only had a few minutes of screen time? John Carpenter likely treated these scripts as a simple parody commentary on where he saw the United States heading politically. A devolution into anarchy as the growing police state came up with tactics to contain said anarchy as well as maintain its stranglehold on the country at large. I don't really consider him a great director/writer to begin with. His masterpiece is The Thing, but that was a remake and adaptation, so not an original idea.

The bonus features are great although I would’ve loved to see an audio commentary with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell talking about their experiences with this film, and a vintage making-of featurette which I believe is on YouTube. Seriously, Scream Factory. Why is that not on this release?
If you love this film or are wanting to complete your John Carpenter collection, Escape from LA is a worthy addition.
On a side note, it’s a dirty shame that the newly released 4K UHD release of the film has no bonus features whereas this does. Fingers crossed Scream Factory re-releases this one on 4K like they are with the upcoming 4K release of Escape from the New York, maybe with some newer bonus features.
