Product description
Solely responsible for the current interest in all things funky and French, the Daft Punk boys, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, can do no wrong. Breaking into the club scene with their own blend of techno-disco in 1995, their debut album is the 80's electro-funk record of your dreams. Influenced by old school Chicago house and Detroit minimalist techno (all name checked on "Teachers"), Homework ranges from the warped electro that has become their trademark on "Around the World" and "Da Funk", to banging acid techno on "Rollin'and Scratchin'" and "Alive". An album so funky it could make James Brown cry, and with so much bite you can feel it at the back of your throat. --Ed Potton

After rocking the suburbs with the infectious and persistent "Da Funk" (with its amusingly pointless Spike Jonze video), Gallic pranksters Daft Punk unleashed Homework, an album that combined everything good about house music with everything bad about French pop and changed the face of dance music in the process. The sound of production duo Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem is a raw and dirty collage of cheap drum machines (wired for maximum swing) welded to endless filtered loops and embellished with everything from guitars to talk-box vocals. The beats are lifted straight from the Chicago House textbook, but the simple bass lines and catchy hooks make a listenable pop song from what would normally be a stripped-down DJ tool. Uncompromising yet totally accessible. --Matthew Corwine

I'm not going to say that I got perfect, flawless playback on my own system. I run a Technics SL-1200mk5 with a Concorde Ortofon Pro S with tracking set at 4.5 grams and I got 3 skips on the last track of side A "Rollin' and Stratchin'". I'm not sure if this was due to not enough tracking force, worn needles, who knows what. But I can sure tell you this. It's almost certainly not the vinyls fault! Never have I ever heard this thing skip before, it blows me away... However, there are a combination of factors here at play. 1) Heavy bass! 2) The track was the last track of the side and the skipping mainly occured at the lead-out of said side, just before the infinite loop at the very end. This is especially important because vinyl's dynamic range changes as you move from the outside of the disc to the inside. 3) Unknown stylus wear.
Just some food for thought, before you start throwing vinyl around like frisbees with Amazon. All you're doing is wasting your own time!
Edit: June 07, 2018: I recently picked up 2 Shure M44-7 cartridges right after they were discontinued. I can safely say that with new cartridges on my SL-1200mk5s that this album does not skip whatsoever. Tracking force was set to approximately 2.5 grams with an Ortofon headshell. So take it for what it's worth.

Homework, not some type of award winning album, however its much deeper and warmer than anything else you can buy on the shelf.
My favorite songs, "Fresh, Rollin, Fidelity, Rock n Roll". Listen to the album from start to finish, headphones on, and sit back relax and enjoy the journey.
Im a DJ, I've been listening to DP since I was 11, still nodding my head everyday.
When I go to get my hair cut and stroll in to hear BOOM BOOM BOOM, I am not to crazy about the feeling. It feels to me music very young people dance, drink and have sex to. But when I heard this Daft Punk album was top of the line dance music, I got it.
And like it. The beats are there, at ranges a non-dance music fan is not used to. But hearing the synthesizer flourishes and the funky hooks here absolutely make this music to me. I am awed by the little needles of sound and rhythm shifts that pulsate through Daft Punk's music, which makes it to me an amazing musical experience.
Probably this will not be a mainstay for me, but when I need a diversion, I know where to go.
