Bright Finish
Bright fasteners have no coating to protect the steel and are susceptible to corrosion if exposed to high humidity or water. They are not recommended for exterior use or in treated lumber, and only for interior applications where no corrosion protection is needed. Bright fasteners are often used for interior framing, trim and finish applications.
Hot Dip Galvanized (HDG)
Hot dip galvanized fasteners are coated with a layer of Zinc to help protect the steel from corroding. Although hot dip galvanized fasteners will corrode over time as the coating wears, they are generally good for the lifetime of the application. Hot dip galvanized fasteners are generally used for outdoor applications where the fastener is exposed to daily weather conditions such as rain and snow. Areas near the coasts where the salt content in rain water is much higher, should consider Stainless Steel fasteners as salt accelerates the deterioration of the galvanization and will accelerate corrosion. All B&C Eagle fasteners meet or exceed the ASTM 153-D classification for Zinc galvanization coating weight. This ensures the longest lifetime possible for a hot dip galvanized fastener.
Electro Galvanized (EG)
Electro Galvanized fasteners have a very thin layer of Zinc that offers some corrosion protection. They are generally used in areas where minimal corrosion protection is needed such as bathrooms, kitchens and other areas that are susceptible to some water or humidity. Roofing nails are electro galvanized because they are generally replaced before the fastener begins to wear and are not exposed to harsh weather conditions if installed properly. Areas near the coasts where salt content in rain water is higher should consider a Hot Dip Galvanized or Stainless Steel fastener. All B&C Eagle electro galvanized fasters meet or exceed the ASTM 641 for Zinc galvanized coating weight for maximum fastener lifetime.
Stainless Steel (SS)
Stainless steel fasteners offer the best corrosion protection available. The steel may oxidize or rust over time but it will never lose its strength from corrosion. Stainless Steel fasteners can be used for exterior or interior applications and generally come in 304 or 316 stainless steel. All B&C Eagle fasteners use a minimum S304 stainless steel.
Smooth Shank
Smooth shank nails are the most common and are often used for framing and general construction applications. They offer enough holding power for most everyday use.
Ring Shank
Ring shank nails offer superior holding power over smooth shank nails because the wood fills in the crevasse of the rings and also provide friction to help prevent the nail from backing out over time. A ring shank nail is often used in softer types of wood where splitting is not an issue.
Screw Shank
A screw shank nail is generally used in hard woods to prevent the wood from splitting while the fastener is being driven. The fastener spins while being driven (like a screw) which creates a tight groove that makes the fastener less likely to back out.
Annular Thread Shank
Annular thread is very similar to a ring shank except the rings are externally beveled which presses against the wood or sheet rock to prevent the fastener from backing out.
Paper Tape Collation
Paper tape is generally used for 30 through 34 degree framing nails and has a strip of paper with glue holding the fasteners together. Paper tape nails contribute to a cleaner job site because the paper around the fastener is driven into the wood along with the fastener, instead of around the job site. Paper tape also reduces the risk of having material stuck under the nail head leaving the top part of the fastener exposed. However, they are sometimes easy to break apart and do not work well in wet or moist conditions because the paper can become soggy.
Plastic Strip Collation
Plastic strip is generally used for 20 through 22 degree framing nails and 15 degree coil nails. They are held together by a strip of plastic that breaks apart when fired by a gun. They are often cheaper than other types of collated fasteners because they are easier to manufacture. However, they also leave a mess of plastic around the job site and can become very brittle when cold. They can also leave pieces of plastic under the head causing the nail to be exposed.
Plastic Band Collation
Plastic band is generally used for 15 degree coil nails. Plastic band is a higher priced alternative to plastic strip but it eliminates the messy job site and also pieces of plastic stuck under the nail head when the nail is driven. The plastic band exit's the coil nailer in one piece making for easy cleanup.
Wire Weld Collation
Wire weld is generally used for 28 degree framing nails and 15 degree coil nails. Wire welded fasteners use a thin piece of wire run lengthwise to hold the fasteners in position. They are not as susceptible to water or cold weather like paper or plastic collated nails, however, the can shoot sharp pieces of metal around the job site and are susceptible to having pieces of wire stuck under the head exposing the nail.

Anyway, the nailgun does drive these somewhat smaller fasteners with the pull of a trigger. I never used a nailgun before, but this was easy to do. No jams or hesitation with these. I am going to build a shed, but the price of lumber is much higher than I thought, so I hope this winter, the price will go down. A shed under 200 square feet does not require a building permit, so I am sure the nails will do the trick. I will be wearing saftey glasses and hearing protection. The pieces do go everywhere, and may be possible that metal could cause an eye injury. The noise generated caused my tinnitus to get louder. I have used this companies other products and they have worked well.
May God protect our military service members and others placed unnecessarily in harm's way. As a veteran, I understand your service. Thank you.
The only question in my mind is one of value. It's true that these can be had in larger quantities for less at some big box stores - I've seen 'em. Depending on whether you already have a trip to that big box store planned and whether it is close, the savings may or may not be worth the trip. This reviewer's time is worth something, and free shipping brought these nails into an acceptable range for me at the time I purchased them. If I regularly went through thousands of nails at a time, the value proposition may change.
The nails in the box that was sent to me were made in Canada, for those to whom that matters.
Bottom line for me: Five stars for nails that performed as they should, never jammed, and came at a fair price.
1. Works flawlessly every time.
2. No fails yet, build a lot with these.
CON:
1. None at this time.
OTHER:
1. BUY if you don't want to go to the big box store.
2. DON'T BUY if you got a coupon or discount etc. at the big box store, they're a bit cheaper, but takes time to go get them, so what is the trade off?
