The sea monkey growing kit is a bonus that my son is excited to try out. The slides aren't great; probably because they are supposed to be safe. pffft. Buy some real glass slides and a case to keep them in. With these dyes, the higher quality slides and a sturdy case, your kids will be making slides from any and everything in the house to examine under a microscope.

My kids (9 and 4) sat down with me and we had hours of fun just looking at Sodium Chloride crystals!

I totally recommend this to anyone wanting to get or keep their kids interested in science.

I purchased this item for my son as a Christmas present to accompany his new microscope. I was amazed at everything we found inside when we opened it. It is a very complete kit. I would not purchase it for a younger child, though, as I'm going to need to carefully monitor my advanced 6 year old with it. However, he is really enjoying making the slides and getting to see what things look like up close.

I found lots of faults with the kit. Generally, I have been impressed with Elenco products. This isn't one of them. All the components are incredibly cheap. And to add a bottle of sodium chloride, when there isn't a household without table salt, is just making the kit look more comprehensive than it actually is.

The directions are sketchy. The dyes need to be mixed with water, but there are no directions for the correct measurements. To make permanent slides you need materials that are not included in the kit. The tweezers are a joke -- cheap plastic. The vials/beakers have unknown uses. Adding them without instruction is a lot like putting the NaCl in the kit.

I'll be looking for another slide kit.

Cheap way to get blank slides

A lot of this is questionable - especially the cheap eye protection and the plastic tweezers.

This is a good way to let the kids practice making slides for themselves. The set comes with 10 glass slides and slide covers, whih you can use, wash, and re-use.

A lot of what is in the box is play-science, but it was a good purchase - $10 and prime shipping.

My only criticism about the items is that the shrimp eggs were expired and never hatched. We'll have to do the experiment again but buy some eggs from an aquarium shop to do so.
