Step right up, boys and girls, for the greatest game in the living room! Balloon Lagoon, designed by the creators of Cranium, is possibly more fun than the carnival it emulates. After all, there's no sticky cotton candy mess, no nauseating rides but plenty of entertaining activity for everyone. A noisy musical merry-go-round timer keeps the pressure on while players take turns fishing for letters to spell words, collecting matching snacks at the Snack Hut, pressing levers to spin wheels to unscramble pictures, or flipping frogs back into their pond. Players keep score by collecting little plastic balloons--the first person to fill a mover piece with 15 balloons wins. The game includes game board, timer, four carnival games, four player movers, 72 scoring balloons, and a balloon bag. Three AA batteries required (not included). You can pretty much assume that if it's Cranium, it's going to be a blast! --Emilie Coulter

To be honest, I had a seller issue which made it even worse than it would otherwise be (the item was listed as in Very Good condition despite missing most of the letters for the fishing section). But even for the parts that were there and essentially in new condition, the game wasn't worth it.
We were so excited that it came today because we had a long repair job that needed doing at the auto shop. We brought Cranium Balloon Lagoon with us, expecting to enjoy the game during our wait. Two of the adults working there were even intrigued enough to sit down and try it out with us, because visually it IS very exciting.
Set up: The game takes some time to set up, and I can see how over time it could degrade. The board must be assembled as very large puzzle pieces, and the game sections mount onto these afresh each time it's taken out of the box. But like puzzle pieces, with much use, it could easily wear down. Still, not a big deal for kids 5 and up who are able to be more careful.
Yellow/Fishing game: This is picking up magnetic letters with a magnetic fishing pole. There is a small pond that is partially covered by a material made to look like water, and a flip chart of words is provided for which players are expected to find those specific letters before the timer song ends. This seems overly challenging (and I was unable to test this, for the reasons stated above).
Red/Dice game: I had hoped this would be similar to the dice game in Cranium Playground (a game which our family adores!), but it's far more insipid. Children dump dice into the top of a plastic concession stand, and when they tumble out, an attempt is made to get 4 of the same kind of concession treat out of the 6 dice before the timer song ends.
Green/Frogs game: This game has 4 plastic frogs of the kind where you press hard on the rear and when you let go, they jump. None of us were able to get the frogs to jump into the frog pond even once, including the self-proclaimed Quarters expert (aka auto shop owner), regardless of the timer.
Blue/Picture matching game: Like the letters game, this one has a flip chart. Each page shows a completed picture of various swimming beings such as a diver, a mermaid, a shark, etc. The player is expected to depress levers for each of 4 tumblers to get the tumbler images to match up to the picture on the card chosen. As mundane as it sounds, it was the most interesting part of the game.
Like other reviewers have said, for each successful game completion during a turn, players acquire a balloon matching the color of that game. All player tokens are purple and similar in size, but they don't move about anywhere on a board, so it is irrelevant. However, the balloons are really challenging to get into the tokens, even for an adult. I really have to wonder if they tested this product on children or adults AT ALL before sending this product to market.
My son and I were so excited to get this game. And having had it less than a day, I'm sending it back. Had it just been some of the letters missing, I might have opted to keep it, but even if everything were new and "perfect", this game adds no value, only frustration.
We have not added the batteries to the spinner, this disables the timer function. When we play, each person gets to do the activity until they complete it, and everyone always gets a balloon. They are having so much fun they aren't concerned with who's winning, which is good, because without the timer it's a moot point.
Most games I buy from thrift stores, but this one was definately worth buying new.
My daughter is 3 1/2 and she picked up on this game immediately!
My only complaint is that the little purple game pieces that hold the balloons are not designed well. The balloons need to be crammed into them so tightly that it's virtually impossible to use as intended.
