This powerful outdoor gas cooking stove features a jet flame that puts out a whopping 185,000 BTUs at full bore. As a result, large pots of water or oil heat very quickly. But pan frying and gentle steaming are also possible when the disc-like flame spreader is rotated to cover and disperse the jet. With a one-piece frame welded of black steel, the jet cooker is incredibly sturdy and very portable. Three legs keep the stove perfectly stable on an uneven brick patio or grassy yard. The stove measures 12 inches in height and features a round, 14-inch cooking surface.
Included with the stove are a UL-listed 20 PSI regulator, 48-inch hose, and valve assembly. All Bayou Classic stoves are designed for use with 20-pound LP gas cylinders (not included), and work great for camping, hunting, and fishing trips, as well as backyard and tailgate parties. Bayou Classic covers its cookers with a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

I use it for many reasons (any I can come up with) from to heat up water on large canning batches, making tamales and steaming apples for applesauce to using my disk skillet to flash saute something or fry anything and everything.
I find it easy to control and relatively safe to use considering it's a high pressure gas burner that gets up to high temperature really fast.
I like to light it using a large piece of wood and keep it held there until the burner is hot enough to sustain the flame. I am sure a stick lighter would work just as good.
It can be finicky to stay lit at times so I never leave it unattended (which I would recommend anyway even if it didn't need it) so I have always tried to keep the adjustments just right for the conditions I am using it with (cold, windy, etc) and have found this to be helpful when using it.
Which takes me to the point of the adjustments. I like the adjustment feature which spreads the flame over the pot bottom to give you some control over flame and also the controls for the amount of gas coming into the burner.
This gives great control over temperature and conditions (size of pot, weather, etc.)
I leave my burner outside most of the time and other than the tarnishing and slight oxidation, I am happy with the quality and design of the burner. It is heavy and workmanship seems to be top notch compared to other burners I have seen.
Be forewarned being a jet burner, it really does sound like a jet and can be really loud.
Not happy overall because of this one issue.
Update: I e-mailed Bayou Classic and got a reply with a suggestion to back the burner nozzle out one or two turns...Problem solved! Burner stays lit now at high or low levels...works great! I'm upgrading to five stars. If you need to heat a pot of whatever up FAST, this is your weapon!
But other than that, it's nice and simple to use, stable, and heats well. Make sure and read the directions on how to turn the gas on, though, because if you do it wrong, you can activate the emergency flow controller and get a weak flame.
I knew there would be paint burn-off with the first use.
Put 6.5 gallons of 52 degree water in a 10 gallon aluminum pot and set it on the burner. Solid as a rock. It can easily handle much larger pots and volumes.
Opened the propane tank 1/2 turn then the burner valve enough to get a flame, then opened the tank all the way.
With the burner valve only open 1/2 way I got a full rapid boil going in 23 minutes with a 5-7 mile an hour breeze blowing the entire time. Turned down the valve to a gentle rolling boil and the sound level went down to a little over a loud whisper.
The paint is gone and the setup is ready for my next brew day.
I expect it will get to a full boil a lot quicker since the wort will already be well over 100 degrees to start.
Loud ? Sure, but it is being used outdoors and there is no reason to be standing next to it for the entire boil.
