As a beginner, it's perfect for her. I think the build quality is very good, and the tuning hardware/sharping levers thus far have been adequate. The sound is good, and while not a harp expert myself, I've several friends that play them and this more than holds it's own. Naturally, the price/sound quality equation factors in here. You can easily spend well over $1000 for a higher end beginner harp...you can spend over $20K! for a high end harp. As a musician myself, I know that have when you start playing an instrument it's important to strike the balance between getting something that sonically thrills and cost. I believe this model more than does this.
I spent a lot of time researching this purchase for my wife; it was a gift. This harp gets overall good to great reviews, and I know that a few reviewers recommended the Harpsicle line which indeed get some pretty good marks. IHMO, these harps definitely do deserve consideration. They do have very good build quality. And I do get it...you're mostly buying your beginner harp for playability and sound quality. But to me, a harp is a gorgeous looking wood instrument. This Roosebeck is definitely a good looking instrument.
My wife would give this 5 stars easily, and as this is really her harp, I'm going to as well. Do your research, look at the other brands out there, and I'd certainly give this serious consideration.
BTW, my wife has been taking online harp lessons "Harp Lessons with Darlene" and has been very happy with those.
Once she was able to get it in tune, I would rate it as 5 stars, because for this price it's a great introductory harp. I recommend buying the gig bag when you purchase the harp. This is not something you're going to want to carry around without some protection.
of this harp has managed to hold it's tuning. The sound quality in the upper octave is rather poor and my student does not like to play those notes. Once you engage a lever the sound of the string deteriorates even further due to the poor quality of the levers. Now my young student does not want to play any string with the lever engaged. Other Mid East harps I have tried to tune simply would not hold for more than an hour. Consider the Harpsicles, entry level harps made by a real harp builder, William Rees. They are also sold on Amazon and start in the $350 range.
I was nervous about buying this very inexpensive harp, but I really wanted to give it another shot. I am so glad that I did!!!! The harp is very well made, and the tuning stability has been great, pretty much from the day that I received it.
My husband, who is a professional musician, has commented several times about how well constructed the harp is, and how great it sounds.
I suspect that I will want to buy a larger harp in the fairly near future due to the somewhat limited range of this one, but I will still love this harp, nonetheless. I will definitely go back to Mid-East for my next harp!!!
