Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

There was a review made that says one can purchase Mobil 1 oil at Sam's for $38 for 5 quarts but I would suggest a much better deal at the "Wmart" store which carries regular Mobil 1 synthetic for under $23 for a 5 quart jug and about $27 for a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 Extended Performance, that is what I use. The difference between the two is that the E.P. contains more additives so it is better to use particularly with extended drain intervals. Not that I partake in extended drain intervals, I just think the price difference for the extra protection is worth it. I suggest following manufacturers recommendations for oil and filter changes or follow ones oil change computer in their car.
As for this filter I often hear confustion regarding the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filters. Questions about their being synthetic and how they work with various oils.
To clear that up a little these filters can be used with any oil, conventional or synthetic. There is no direct correlation between the Mobil 1 E.P. oil and the E.P. filters. The advertising suggests there is since they can both be used for extended drain intervals however this is a loose reference and more marketing than anything.
Simply consider this filter using the same performance measurements as any other oil filter.
What this filter does offer is a combination of conventional paper and synthetic media fibers which filters up to 99.6% of particulates. One can check the Mobil site for more detailed information on these filters and the tests conducted that offer more detail than just the percentage figure. This is the same for most brands of oil filters from the manufactures sites.
It also claims to have a capacity to hold up to 28 grams of contaminants...which is not a practical/useful measurement. If your oil filter is accumulating anywhere near 28 grams of material you have a much bigger issue with your motor than what filter you are using. I guess it does show that the relatively small size in comparison to some other filters does not diminish it's capacity but that is about it.
The sort of normal particles removed by an oil filter in a properly running motor simply do not weigh that much or anywhere close to it and if they did would have to be large amounts of metal in which case no filter will help.
When comparing this to other oil filters I like the construction as well as the filtering media. Keeping the filtering media structure intact during it's service life.
For some applications smaller filters are necessary to fit in to the clearances allowed in the engine compartment.
I use this filter in my 1998 Trans Am WS6 and there is room for a larger oil filter and there are some available. Some do choose to use them. I do not think that filtering is enhanced by using a larger filter, especially if they are not using filtering media which is as efficient. I have put extra money in to my LS-1 motor and would not skimp on protection. I think this filter for the price and the oil I use offer sufficient protection as long as I change them at reasonable intervals just as with all oils and filters. Oils do not "wear out" the additives do become depleted and contaminants such as acids build up which filters are not capable of removing. The only way to fix those issues is via a change of oil.
I would suggest doing comparisons of oil filters, seeing what media they use and checking in to the efficiency of a filter. Make sure in the comparison you are sure that the SIZE (in microns) of particles is the same when comparing tests. Some filters will outright state the percentage of "X" size micron particles and others will give a percentage of particles removed and reference a test which you can then look up to find out the particle size trapped in the referenced tests.
For all oil filters I would suggest adding new engine oil to the filter before installation whenever possible as well as coating the sealing gasket with a light coat of clean motor oil before installation. This helps to prevent any amount of "dry start up" when first running the motor.
There are oil filter comparisons on the internet and internet forums including the popular Bobstheoilguy website. Taking the time to research oils and filters in places like that offers a lot of insight in to current offerings of oils and filters. You will find several tests by individuals that have cut open new and used oil filters so you can see their internal construction.
Finally consider the price and what you are spending on the oil you are using and what your oil change intervals are.
Although it is not directly related to oil filters but synthetic oils there is a lot to learn about those as well. For example that in the U.S. over 95% of oils that are labeled "full synthetic" are really highly processed mineral oils. Mobil 1 like most others are what are known as group III synthetics. This is due to the lawsuit Castrol V Mobil in which Castrol won and thus caused the issues we now have with identifying truly synthetic oils which are of the group IV (P.A.O. based) which Mobil 1 used to be at one time and group V (Ester based) synthetics. Even in recent times oils that were traditionally P.A.O. based no longer are, one really needs to do their research and keep up with it to have a good idea of what is in the bottle. There is a LOT of information out there about motor oils and filters, using marketing by oil companies to make decisions is a very poor way of making decisions.
The current $7.95 with free shipping is a good price for this filter. I am figuring that in to my 5 star review. Even though I use both Extended Performance M1 oil and filters I change my oil at about 6.000 miles or one year which usually ends up being about the same thing. But one year for sure. I would only be saving a few dollars by using the non E.P. versions and like the extra cushion of protection.
While reviews by members can be quite valuable here on Amazon I would still suggest doing some independent research by visiting sites such as the one I mentioned to really educate oneself on the best oils and filters to use for your vehicles. There are simply too many misleading and false contentions when it comes to automotive products that make the particularly important to gather outside information backed up by factual independent testing and documentation. Not anecdotal claims made by individuals.
There are also discussions on oil in the automotive forums here on Amazon that one can participate in and ask questions too. They just might not be as structured as some other forums.
So yes, for the price such as is being offered here it is a very good filter and a reasonable price. Just like the M1 oils is a very good oil that can be purchased at a very low price, at least at the big W and stores that match it such as Autozone (In my area at least).
I got tired of having to sort through brands which make both good filters and know bad filters. Forget it. Mobile 1 oils and filters are ALWAYS good, though a bit more expensive at times. For my vehicles running 10,000 oil change intervals (less than 1/yr) the extra few bucks is worth it for peace of mind.

you can get 5 quarts of mobil one at Sam's club for about 38 bucks saves a lot of money.
