Good start for fly fishing.
5 Stars
Good start for fly fishing.
Very nice rod in this price range. You should be able to use it in Salt/Fresh Water. This is a 5 weight rod but Okuma told me it could manage 6 weight lines. I put 5 weight on an Okuma Magnesium Reel and put it to use in the South Fork area of the Potomac in WV. It casts well and accurately with long cast. I fished it in Poor House Spring Creek and manage an 8 pound Rainbow on it among other fish hooked up and worked successfully. It is a handsome rod, well made and up to the task of hooking up and managing good sized energetic fish. I was impressed because I typically use gear costing 5-8 times more than this. I put it through the ringer and it will be along for future outings.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I would have loved to actually have had a chance to cast this rod. I ordered one, it delivered with a broken #2 section. I reordered a replacement, and it delivered with a broken #2 and #3 section in a rod sock that looked like it had been through a war. The rod sock had holes in the end and the rod sections were falling out.

I have other Okuma gear and have been pleased. I ordered an SLV reel that I intended to put on this rod. I haven't fished with it yet, but it feels pretty solid. Drag seems reasonable for a budget reel. I also purchased a surf rod spinner combo to do some fishing this summer and was pleasantly surprised with how solid it felt.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
