I also like the way they are contoured near the elbow - they offer greater skid protection when you hit the ground.
You can wear them with the Velcro strap or the elastic band. I prefer the Velcro.
I ordered a pair of these from the "Used" section to save a few bucks. I was sent an entirely different design. They were very cheap feeling and nothing like the EP55's listed and looked nothing like anything that was on Triple8's website. Possibly counterfeit but I have no real proof. So those went back and I ordered another set from the "Used" section. This time the proper ones arrived. Only just as others have stated, the straps were way too long and rendered the pads unusable. I paid less than $20 for these so instead of sending them back again, I just cut the straps and resewed the velcro. Now they fit perfect!
I did though go look at the Triple8 website again and it seems they have redesigned the EP55's to address the strap issue. The bottom strap is different and both straps now come all the way around the pad.
Bottom line, if you want to save some money, are not afraid of cutting up your new purchase and know how to sew, these are fine. Otherwise, just go to Triple8.com and order the new design.
I have yet to use them in bouts, but they are good protection and reasonably priced for the good protection when you are going to be falling the most. I would recommend them to dabblers and those just getting started in quad derby. You might as well spend the $30 or so bucks now and avoid the hundreds to thousands on a hospital bill if you were to fall on your arm or break your elbow wearing cheap pads or no padding at all.

Haven’t slammed with them on yet, but it will happen.
Very pleased
