Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Ours is a medium-sized business environment. We use VLANs, LAGs and LACP: these as not dumb switches. They power our Cisco IP Phones and security cameras . (PoE changed my life.)
At this price point (especially if you buy the refurbished units!), the switches are everything you want them to be. While they are slower to configure using the web interface than a Cisco switch running the full Cisco IOS with a luxurious command line, that's really my only complaint. The hardware is reliable and performance is as expected.
[UPDATE] This detail appears to have been added to the description now.
As mentioned, the switch had been performing well until I noticed yesterday that I could no longer ping the switch's LAN IP address or (naturally) get to its configuration page via a browser. The switch was still operating though. I rebooted the switch, but that still didn't restore the ability to get to ping it or configure it. I finally resorted to reseting the switch to factory settings. It came back correctly, but of course I had to re-input all of my configuration settings which were lost in the factory reset. I have now saved the configuration to a network file so that I can restore it with an upload if need be in the future. If this switch misbehaves again in the short term, I will be forced to return it.
Long story short, I've upgraded the 2 star to 4 star. The hold back on the 1 star was primarily more of a user intuitive/friendly interface that resulted in my facing these issues. I called Cisco tech support, and they were really friendly and helpful. The only issue was their lack of Mac OS knowledge, so it was harder for them to resolve the Boot Code Update.
Issues Resolved:
1) This was related to settings were not automatically saved. I saw the "(x) save" flash periodically, but I thought it was an auto save feature letting me know things were being saved. It would flash on and then disappear, making me think it was a notification. Instead, it was actually a 'warning' that my changes were not being saved until I hit the "(x) save" status.
2) The reason I couldn't get past the fourth oldest firmware upgrade, was that other firmware upgrades required the boot code to also be upgraded. And unlike the firmware which allows for HTTP update via a web browser, the boot code upgrade required TFTP protocol to update (this is where the Cisco Techs were having issues figuring out how to do this on the Mac. And they couldn't figure out how to make SCP work, and HTTP was not an option for this feature). Eventually, this was resolved, but this took the bulk of the time.
Less significant issue: Setting the date/time of the switch 'automatically' through polling of a server/service on the internet. Typically other routers that I've purchased from Cisco or Netgear, this was an easy 'check box' like feature to enable. On this switch, the server names that are available to chose from were not working, but eventually, through searching, we found a server that provided this service and entered the IP address into the system and it worked.
All in all, it's working great so far. Only have 7 lines hooked up, but plan to migrate all the other ethernet connections over time, and leverage about 7 of the PoE's.
Thanks,
Andy
===========================================
After reading so many rave reviews, I decided to go for the SG200-50P. This is an unmanaged 50 Port (24 of which are PoE capable) switch.
What works well:
1) works out of the box based on the instructions. Hard coding the Computer's IP, I could reach, sign into and configure the Switch. I set its IP (versus allowing the router to DHCP, set its IP address. I reserve a range of IP addresses for devices I want to conveniently log into ), changed the password (prompted when you first log into the switch), and set the system's date/time.
Issues:
1) anytime I reboot, I lose all the settings I made above (date/time, password, static IP assignment, just these simple settings so far. I don't want to invest more time until I figure out why a reboot resets these to the default. . It doesn't reset the static IP of the switch to 192.168.1.254 (out of the box), but instead resets it to DHCP to receive an assigned IP).
2) there was four new firmware updates available from Cisco's site. I was able to successfully install ONLY the 1.3.5.58 version. The other three versions met with errors upon attempting to install them. Either size too large (install died after 97%) on the next version, or it simply gives error of "install failed" after loading 2% on the two afterwards. After these failures, I had to reset the switch and install the first upgrade, otherwise the menu system behaved erratically after a failed firmware upgrade.
These two big issues leave me disappointed. I will try tech support to see if I can resolve the issue. I hope it's easy to fix remotely without me having to send this item back.
Years ago, I was a die hard Cisco fan, but then switched to Netgear after a series of quality issues with their home routers (the Pancake version, their WRT series were awesome until one day it finally died). But after reading these reviews, I was tempted to give them a try again. Disappointing so far. :-(
A less significant issue, more annoying than anything else is that the fans are quite loud. The thing runs pretty cool from what I can tell so far, so I guess it does its job, just rather loudly. Also, the instructions says there is a 'spacer' for the mounting bracket for the rack, but there was no spacer for either bracket.
As far as the switch itself, it works fine. But now I have to buy another PoE switch...
Thanks Obama...
Since installing the Smart Switch we are happily enjoying our great internet service but a little bonus...if we use wireless we are not dropping service like we were before...go figure!
POE, easy VLAN configuration for Data,Video and Voice isolation.
The only con is there are only 24 POE ports.
