The igniter (or glow rod) in our oven went out a couple years ago, and the price of a replacement seemed a bit extreme. So we decided we'd rather just save up for a new oven - which never happened. So we've been without for a while. When I found this listing, I jumped at it.
First, the part. Obviously it costs a lot less than you'll find it listed pretty much anywhere else. Is it a "cheap replacement part"? I have no idea. For all I know, more than one company manufactures it as an original part, and this could be one of them. Quite a few oven manufacturers use this igniter design, so it's not inconceivable. In my case it's for a GE, and the little numbers on the ceramic inside aren't the same, but it's otherwise identical to the one I was replacing. And, for me, the mounting holes matched up perfectly, though it was shipped with an adapter so a different model oven might need it.
One wire has a standard connector clip, the other had a bare end, and it came with wire nuts. I had to snip the wire from the old igniter and splice it because the original had a special connector. Easy enough to do. Removing the old part and putting the new one in wasn't fun, but it was fairly easy (except for one screw in the oven that had stripped). I had to work a little blindly since the part is mounted from the bottom but access is from the top, but this new part fit exactly as it should. Put the oven back together, turned the power on and set the oven to 350 degrees and... it lit right up! I couldn't be happier. No telling the longevity of its life since I just got it, but it works beautifully.
Second, the seller. Ordered from Seneca River Trading, who already impress me because of the price. I ordered on May 24th and the estimated delivery was anywhere between June 3rd and June 18th. Which I thought was kind of long since I was paying for shipping, but the part was 80% cheaper than anywhere else, so I considered it well worth it. But the thing actually showed up on May 28th - a full six days before the earliest estimated date. Needless to say, I'm thoroughly impressed with this company.
Plus: It fits, it worked. includes wire nuts -- you don't need to buy separately. Installs easy.
Cons: As other reviews stated, the wires are short for my GE XL44, so the wire nuts are needed. How much more would it cost to add one inch to the darned wire?
Thoughts:
If you are moderately handy, this job only takes maybe 20 minutes - more if you sweep the dust bunnies from under the stove. The included mount for the igniter has holes slightly larger than absolutely necessary, so I noted the few negative comments and used the play to make sure that the igniter is in the path of the gas jets. No issues, worked first time. Glowed and then lit as soon as the gas started.
Under the oven of the GE 44XL models, the two screws holing the burner bar are slightly hard to deal with. Screws are pretty easy to remove, and retrieving the one I dropped only took a little effort. BUT, getting the screws back in is a little tricky. If you have a magnetic nut driver, use it, I had to wrap a little plastic tape around the head of the screw to enable the driver to hold the screw long enough to get it started in the hole.
I'm handy but a klutz, and the fix was a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Other reviews have done a much better job than me documenting the whole process, but the one tip I'd give is to remove the entire main burner tube, with the igniter attached. It's only three screws total, one in front with the oven open, and two underneath. This will allow much better and easier access to unscrew the igniter.
My oven used 1/4" hex screws throughout, so I used a little driver to remove and replace the screws.
The igniter can be tested IN PLACE, but you have to disconnect it first. Be careful and unplug your oven before doing anything. Just test for continuity between the two leads of the igniter, if it's completely "OPEN" meaning no continuity, then your igniter is bad and needs replaced. The new igniter didn't exactly register shorted, but did measure some amount of resistance between the two pins.
The main symptom was that while the top burners worked, and the top BROILER igniter + burner worked fine, the main oven didn't come on at all. Without removing anything, you can tell if your bottom igniter is working because you will see a huge orange glow underneath the bottom metal plate as soon as you turn the oven on. Trust me, you don't need any special lighting conditions or look carefully, you'll see it glow bright orange. If it doesn't, you need to replace the igniter.
The main burner igniter is the number one failed piece on gas ovens.
Other sites wanted between $60 and $90 for this piece, I was very happy to get it shipped to my house so quickly via Amazon Prime. The actual unit I got was manufactured by Surface Igniter Corporation (http://www.surfaceigniter.com/#!rars-page/casm) and was marked RA272KX/GR403.

After Crimping the previous fastener using a butt splice ( must be a special wire, perhaps stainless as it does not solder. I did not try spot welding however). The device worked great like a charm.
