Used on Jet 15" HH planer (not that the planer model really matters) - worked great for a month or two, now no longer works. No phone number to call, so I've left an email for support. Will update my review based on how that goes.
Basically when I put batteries in the unit, all digits on the LCD light up. I can turn it off, then back on again, and it comes up to some random number in MM. When I press and hold On/Off to calibrate, it goes to 0.00 as one would expect, but then it locks up hard. You cannot turn it off/on, change from MM to Inches, etc. I've tried multiple resets and this is the result every time. Pretty frustrating. I've read their FAQs, etc but nothing seems to cover this particular issue. Hopefully they can help me resolve and I will bump this rating to a 4 or 5 star after a little more usage.
From the physical installation, to the fine calibration, this Wixey is right on the money. It did take me a couple hours to setup, but it certainly wasn't difficult. It attaches to the planer with metal screws, and is a rock solid installation. You calibrate the unit by planing an arbitrary thickness and then using the scale itself to measure that thickness relative to the scale readers position on the scale slide. It's really a slick way of setting the calibration, and most importantly, it's dead accurate.
Oh, and the fact it uses AAA batteries (instead of those annoying CR232 discs) is icing on the cake. They advertise the two AAA's lasting a couple years, but we'll see. The auto off feature is great too. I'm very happy with Wixey's gauges.
On installation - spend the extra 30 minutes to an hour carefully figuring out where and how to mount it. DO NOT overtighten the screws after drilling the castings on your machine with the included bit. You *will* strip them, and have to use an oversized screw.
On use - enjoy this thing! It's a huge time-saver, eliminating test cuts and machine time. It is well worth the money to buy it, and the time to install it. You'll not regret it!
[I see Quincy managed to get in the picture. What a ham...]
