It's been a year and a half and the keyboard functions literally the same as it has when it first came out of the box. The only noticeable change from when I first purchased the product is the spacebar wear that shows on every keyboard ever made since the spacebar is the most pressed key on a keyboard.
Otherwise there has been zero issues with this keyboard since day one and it continues to be a fantastic value.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (MAY 2018):
Amazon Basics is starting to be a brand that I like the more I use. I needed an inexpensive keyboard to attach to my laptop to improve my overall desk set up on a budget and the keyboard did just that and surprised me.
Pros:
Key travel is great. All are very responsive and feel great when typing. At this price you're not looking for a mechanical keyboard, but this is much more comfortable to type at high volumes than my laptop (Acer V5).
Awesome dedicated buttons - Calculator on the top right, MyComputer button in the middle, music player button, and dedicated volume buttons are all included as single-press actions. I have all of these features on my laptop, but I have to press a function key and this really makes my life easier!
F + J + 9 (D Pad) keys have a pretty solid bump for getting right to work without having to look at the keyboard.
Number lock + Caps Lock do have green lights to indicate when they're on. Backspace and shift keys seem to work well and I'm not worried about how well they'll hold up over time. SHIFT and ENTER seem small but they work just fine without slowing down typing speed or accuracy. D PAD size is great number pad is great and playing around with the calculator didn't slow me down at all.
Cord is pretty long so you shoudln't have an issue keeping it connected to whatever you need.
Cons:
Upon further examination, the space bar seems and sounds a bit shaky. I'm worried about how well it'll hold up over time. Then again, I've had other keyboards/laptops with similar issues. Being such a cheap laptop I'm not expecting it to last forever I just wonder if that's going to be the first thing that goes.
I wish it was a bit wider of a keyboard. It feels like a normal size I just feel ever so slightly cramped for a dedicated keyboard.
The high gloss finish of the body shows dust and smudges, I wish it was more of a matte finish like the keys.
The rubber "feet" are not very grippy I had to put a pad under my keyboard (check photos) to make sure it didn't slide around while typing (that may just be me typing too hard). The "feet" are a solid bar on the back so if you like to prop your keyboard up further (you shouldn't it's bad for you), then that'll be a con as well.
Overall:
Great value. Exactly what I needed. Great price.

Great value. Exactly what I needed. Great price.
I started using these low profile chicklet keyboards because I was switching back and forth between my laptop (which has a siilar KB) and my desktop with a more tradition design KB and I was having issues typing as quickly because the difference in key height/spacing. I had switched to a very well-known name brand keyboard that is similar to this at 8 times the price (granted, it has some "frills"). It lasted about a year before one of the keys broke and I couldn't fix it (I'm pretty handy with all things computers). I have another of the name brand ones and while it still works fine, the "a" and "s" characters on the keys are rubbing off after just 1.5 years and the manufacturer has no interest in fixing what is obviously a defect. I'm done paying big money for keyboards!
Rather than shell out another $80+ dollars, I decided to give this one a try figuring if it wasn't any good, it could be my spare. I was pleasantly surprised on how close it resembled the spacing and layout of the one it replaced and it feels great when typing. It doesn't have some of the frills of the more expensive KB's but it has volume and media buttons along with a few other application buttons like calculator and media player.
Some have complained about the amount of noise the keys make. These aren't any noisier than a lot of other keyboards. Note, the noise comes from the spring return of the key after being pressed and not the annoying loud CLACK CLACK CLACK you hear from "mechnical" keyboards depending on the switch type. If you need a truly silent keyboard, this isn't it but if you work in an office with some ambient noise, no one is going to complain about the sound.
The tilt angle is not adjustable and it is somewhat flat but even expensive keyboards like the one I just ditched only have 2 adjustments - flat and angled. I certainly think it's angled enough for comfort, it just may take getting used to it for some.
In summary, if you need a basic keyboard complete with number pad and you are ok with it being wired (USB), don't waste your money on big name brand versions unless they have some functionality you can't live without (most are gimmicky anyway).
Here are some points to consider when buying (these may be pros/cons depending on the individual):
> Not wireless (USB)
> Doesn't need batteries (because it's not wireless)
> Not silent but not noisy either, if silent typing is needed, move on. Louder than the typical laptop keyboard.
> No backlit keys
> Full number pad, function keys and extra function buttons (calculator, media player, media controls, etc)
> Caps/scroll/num lock lights are present
> Non-adjustable tilt height
> Low profile, chiclet style keyboard
> Very inexpensive!
> Suface around keys is shiny and prone to fingerprints/smudging (for you OCD types)
> Cable is average length (~48"), may be short for those who have to route it way over the beck of the desk and down to a PC
> Has an overall inexpensive but not flimsy feel
> Has an Amazon basics logo on it (for those who are brand sensitive). Nothing a sticker can't cure if it bothers you.
> No fancy features like programmable keys, scroll wheels, wrist rest, etc.
Top reviews from other countries
