Important thing though, because the bugs come with batteries included, as time goes on they’re more likely to fail. I‘ve seen a couple of reviews saying their batteries leaked/exploded, and that’s probably from the age of the batteries. Maybe swap them out before using, especially if it’s no longer 2024 at the time you’re reading this. Otherwise I recommend.
Three notes: first, the obligatory safety note -- this product is rated for children 8+, so keep an eye on the younger ones.
Secondly, I wish the batteries would last longer. I would have given this product 5 stars if battery life were better. Further, Hexbug branded batteries are expensive, so I'd recommend buying them from another source. The Scarab (and at least some of the other Hexbugs) take button type AG13/LR44 batteries. You can buy a pack of 10 on Amazon for $2.16 as of this writing MAXELL LR44 (AG13) BATTERIES 10 pcs .
Lastly, of the other Hexbugs, I recommend the Larva Hexbug Larva (Colors May Vary) which has an infrared sensor in it's head that it uses to detect obstacles in it's path. Once something is detected (e.g. you hand in front of the sensor), it'll pivot and move in another direction. Good stuff. The fastest Hexbug, the Ant Hexbug Ant (Colors May Vary) , is also fun, but doesn't work well on carpet. It also has a reputation of getting it's wheels jammed by pet hair.
