Common ColdA cold usually includes a runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, and coughing. These symptoms can last for up to two weeks. Over 200 viruses can cause the common cold. The rhinovirus is the most common type of virus that causes colds. |
FluInfluenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses infecting the nose, throat and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness. Serious outcomes of flu infection can result in hospitalization or death. Some people, such as older people, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications. There are two main types of influenza (flu) virus: Types A and B. The influenza A and B viruses that routinely spread in people are responsible for seasonal flu epidemics each year. |
How Cold and Flu SpreadsMost experts believe that cold and flu viruses are spread by respiratory droplets propelled when people with cold or flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people 3 to 6 feet away. Less often, a person might get a cold or the flu by touching a surface/object that has the virus on it and then touching their mouth or nose. |
Period of ContagiousnessYou may be able to pass on a cold or flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick. Some people, especially young children and people with weakened immune systems, might be able to infect others for an even longer time. Sources: webmd; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services |
Stop Germs
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and toss in the trash after use.
- If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
When to seek medical attention
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following:
Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Purple or blue discoloration of the lips
- Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
- Sudden dizziness
- Confusion
- Severe or persistent vomiting
- Seizures
- Flu-like symptoms that improve, but then return with fever and worse cough

One of the things I love most about this nasal decongestant is the fast-acting formula. Within minutes of taking it, I can feel the congestion starting to clear and my sinuses opening up. It's a noticeable and welcome relief, especially when I'm feeling congested and miserable.
Overall, I highly recommend GoodSense Maximum Strength Nasal Decongestant PE to anyone who suffers from sinus congestion. It's an effective and convenient way to find relief when you need it most.
Another thing I wanted to point out is the inaccurate image of the actual pill size. It’s bigger than the box’s photo. Not a big deal since the pill is still small and easy to swallow. I just wonder why it isn’t accurate. Change manufacturer? It makes a person feel uneasy or untrusting sometimes. The pills look identical to up&up’s generic Sudafed (from Target) but Target has correct image on the box. Anyway, just an observation.

I get sinus headaches pretty regularly and when I do, the first thing I think to reach for is sinus medication. The GoodSense brand works as well as the big name brand - Sudafed, and my headache usually resides with just one pill. I do try to prevent sinus headaches with saline rinses, saline nasal gel, sometimes a little saline and HO2 if I'm getting an infection. But despite that I still get sinus headaches - I've been told by ENT's it's just the nature of where we live, and I have allergies and they seem to bring them on. If I ignore them, they usually turn into migraine or cluster headaches, so I have to do what I can to get rid of them. This nasal decongestant works for me about 95% of the time.
The only downside is that it seems to dry me out a bit, but I'll take more dryness over the pressure and pain. I just carry water with me where ever I go - which is also great for keeping sinus problems away.
All in all I couldn't beat the quality and price. Highly recommended.
When I think of Sudafed, I think of pseudoephedrine. This is not pseudoephedrine, but phenylephrine. I noticed that, when I was looking around, & looked at the Sudafed PE & noticed that it was the same phenylephrine & not pseudoephedrine, so I went ahead & purchased it, thinking that Sudafed is no longer using pseudoephedrine either, so...
Well, it didn't work. I figured that it was just the way it was going to be now. I even brought it up at the DR, that Sudafed is no longer Sudafed & the nurse agreed w/ me, so I figured it was so. Looking to write this review, I see that Sudafed still does sell pseudoephedrine, but that the PE variety isn't...
Anyway, I'll stick w/ the real deal from now on, YMMV
Sudafed = pseudoephedrine
