I bought these ants for a homeschool lesson using our ant farm, we got approximately 25-30 live ants, unfortunately there were some casualties, but there is plenty alive to observe. My school aged children are 7 and 9 years old and have sat calmly for hours watching and observing the ants behaviors and roles in the "colony" and have already read the accompanying book. It took the ants about 20 hours in the ant farm to dig their first tunnel which was met with extreme excitement when my children came to watch the ants and saw it. Even us adults are loving watching and observing them. Definitely recommend these ants!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lively and hard workers!
Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2024
I'm pretty sure not a single one died in transit! Upon arrival I was quick to dump them in the waiting farm, which was a mistake on my part. I highly recommend doing the fridge first to slow them down because as I tapped the tube to dump them out, they were cruising and escaping out the top of the farm. In my own comical panic I dropped the tube. I'd say more than half the colony got to explore my desk before I had finally used the plastic tweezers that came with my farm to get them all individually into the farm. 24 hours since introduction, and I counted 23 ants, so two casualties from my tweezing, but by all means, that's still plenty of ants for the tiny farm I got. I already ordered a second farm to connect to this one. The ants immediately got to work and have already built several tunnels, including what appears to be a tomb/graveyard shoot. This whole thing was a complete impulse buy and I couldn't be happier, they are far more exciting to watch than I expected!

3.0 out of 5 stars They’re dropping like flies
Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2024
When my ants arrived, a good amount arrived dead, which was ok because about 20 of them were alive and for our ant farm, that seemed okay. We got our ants on Jan 25. Today is Jan 31 and only six of them are still alive. We’ve followed instructions for feeding and watering the habitat, but they’re still dwindling. I’m going to take them outside and hopefully give these six some type of chance, but since ants live in colonies I don’t think that’ll work well. It’s just very disappointing to watch this happen. I don’t particularly love ants, but since I bought them and brought them into my home I feel a strong sense of responsibility for them and had I known this would happen to them, I wouldn’t have bought them in the first place. It was fun to watch them build their tunnels though! Super cool for a science lesson for the kids.
